UFC 117 Experience

UFC 117 was a great experience as all of the fights are…We had one of our stud fighters Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman who took on undefeated UFC star Johny Hendricks in what was an action packed fight from start to finish. “The Spaniard” used superior wrestling and crisp striking to control the first round and won it on the judges score cards. In the second round, the heavy handed Hendricks caught Charlie with a hook punch and despite “The Spaniard” not quitting and continuing to fight, the bout was stopped by the ref. It was a great showing by Charlie, unfortunately he just got caught. Congratulations to Johny and we will all be rooting for him throughout his UFC career.

In addition to the festivities surrounding UFC 117, we had the pleasure to go and train with Cesar Gracie’s team. Myself along with UFC Fighters Jim & Dan Miller & UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar headed over to train with the likes of Strikeforce Champion’s Nick Diaz & Jake Shields (now in UFC) as well as UFC fighters Nate Diaz, David Mitchell & Bellator Champion Joe Soto. Needless to say it was a star studded and very talented room and I was honored to be on the same mat training with such talented fighters. Here are some pictures of our 2 days at Team Cesar Gracie:

The fights were all action packed and the whole UFC 117 experience as a whole was fun & exciting. Some random musing’s from the experience are 1.) Steven Seagal looks like a walking wax statue 2.) Frankie Edgar stinks as a driver 3.) The Diaz brothers and Jake Shields are not only great fighters, they are cool as hell! Here are some misc. pictures from the fight, weigh ins, etc….

UFC 111 Recap…

Wow – what an amazing experience UFC 111 was! We got to fight in front of a sold out packed house in our home state. The card had 2 title fights and a loaded card altogether. Jim Miller got to kick off the live pay per view and the energy in the arena was at an all time high for any UFC event that I experienced. We rocked the house by coming out to the Soprano’s theme song and Jim used that energy to carry over into the octagon where he won a unanimous decision over a very tough Mark Bocek. We took a lot of video for our Blog so I will let the videos tell the story from our arrival to the hotel, the weight cut, the lockeroom, the walkout, the post fight press conference and the return to the hotel…Enjoy the videos!!!

Back In NYC For Media Appearances…

We started the week off with our no gi BJJ training session with the great Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro – the session was filled with multiple UFC, WEC, & Strikeforce fighters including multiple Jiu Jitsu black belts. After a good 2 hours of training and a fast shower, we then headed out to AOL studios for an appearance on The MMA Hour Show which was broadcast live at 3:00PM -

Later in the week we met up again in NY but this time to go make a few radio appearances at Sirious/XM radio. After meeting in the lobby and discussing our agenda, we first went on the Ken Daneyko & Jim Dowd radio program and spoke hockey, fighting and NJ with the former hockey playing greats.

Then things began to get really interesting when we walked into the Howard 101 studio for our appearance on the Scotty Farrall Show…upon walking in we were greeted with the following:

3 Days in NYC with The AMA Fight Club…

This week was a whirlwind tour of NYC that kept us busy nonstop for 3 days straight. It all began on Monday afternoon when myself along with UFC Fighters Jim Miller, Dan Miller & Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman went to train no gi Jiu Jitsu with 4x world champion & current Strikeforce Fighter Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro. Shaolin has an MMA record of 20-3 and is one of the best fighters and Jiu Jitsu practitioners in the world! Shaolin put us through a great workout and we had an amazing session. Thank you to Shaolin for all of your help & your continued friendship!

After the training session we headed over to Everlast worldwide headquarters where we met with their executives about sponsorship for AMA Fight Club & our fighters. Everyone we met was great & I really look forward to working together with them. We left with some great equipment & gear. Everlast is going to make a huge splash in the MMA market in 2010/2011 & we are excited to be a part of it. While there, Jimmy, Dan & Charlie got to sign their world famous punching bag that is in the lobby and includes the autographs of everyone from Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Randy Couture & now our AMA Fight Club fighters. It’s amazing how far we have come in just over a couple years!

Monday also happened to be my birthday and we ended the day with The Miller Brothers taking me for sushi… Thank you guys!

Tuesday was an exciting day as well. We started off with a 12:30 sparring session at AMA where Jim Miller later admitted to trying to kick me in the liver on purpose, what a guy. Then I was off with “The Flying Brenneman Brothers” to Sirius Satellite radio’s headquarters in NYC. Charlie was scheduled to go live on Sirius Fight Club radio from 5:00 – 7:00PM. Charlie did great and answered questions from fans calling in and Frankie Edgar called in as a guest as well. The entire Sirius experience was awesome! We saw the Howard Stern Show’s Studio as well as Opie & Anthony, Shade 45, NFL Live, Mad Dog Russo, etc…It was pretty impressive.

Wednesday was the best day of all. We had a blast. First we were off to the Topps Trading Card Company for the official box break & release of the 2010 UFC Main Event trading card series which was Topps second release of 2010. The set includes AMA Fight Club Fighters Jim Miller, Dan Miller, Rafaello “Tractor” Oliveira and of course our teammate Frankie Edgar. Upon arrival I played a couple of VERY competitive games of UFC undisputed with Topps Executive Jeremy Fullerton. Then we opened up a bunch of boxes of Topps cards…I felt like I was a little kid again and had the time of my life. You can see by the videos that it was a great time.

After Topps, we stopped by one of our sponsor’s office: www.NECO.com which is one of the country’s largest ticket brokers. If you want tickets for any event, check them out! We left NECO and walked through Times Square to the Fox studio to be there for a taping of Fox Fight Game. The guests for the night included me, UFC fighters Frankie Edgar, Jim Miller, Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman, along with Rolles Gracie, “Sapo” & Ring of Combat welterweight champion, Ryan Laflare. The taping of the show was fun and it capped off a great 3 days.
